ON Saturday morning Netcare 911 paramedics responded to the Summerfeld area off Shongweni after a mountain biker lost control on wet rocks and fell.

Chris Botha Media Liaison Officer for Netcare 911 said: “Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying in a waterlogged area with severe pain and hypothermic. The patient was stabilised by the Netcare advanced life support paramedic and ambulance crews, the Netcare rescue officer assisted and immobilised the patient into a specialised stretcher before he was removed to dry ground. 

“Because of the man’s injuries and the bad terrain it was decided to rather airlift the patient to hospital. Once the Red Cross helicopter landed  the patient was loaded onto the aviation stretcher and then airlifted to a specialised hospital in Durban for the care that he required,” he added.- Supplied
