Not everything is about race

2017-04-04 06:02

IN a country that is still hurting from past injustices, it is ridiculous to keep stoking the fires with regards to the main source of this hurt, i.e. racial tension. It seems that any situation can and will be made into something racially related (it still baffles me how there is always someone ready with a camera to record such instances). The recent Spur video in which a man and woman were arguing was labelled racist simply because one party was black and the other white. It was a normal fight over their kids and the man never used specific, racially derogatory words to suggest racism. Helen Zille casually mentions something about colonialism and suddenly she is enemy number one. Somebody could sneeze in the direction of another race and it would most probably be labelled racism.

Social media, biased individuals and poor journalism are to blame. How about reporting valid cases and picking on those who deserve it instead of sensationalising everything? Julius Malema openly states that whites must be killed and their land taken but nobody takes offence and he gets away with it.

This is an example of racism in its purist form. How about taking him to task?Racism will never go away, but wake up South Africa, if every single thing is going to be turned into something racial, then we are seriously in trouble as a nation.
