THE Fever had a one on one session with upcoming singer and song writer Sifiso Mkhize who is better known as Zulugap who has performed for many local events.

Fever: Tell me about yourself.

Sifiso Mkhize (SM): I am 22 years old, born in Clermont, however my family is from Eastern Cape in small town called Bizana. I am an upcoming singer-songwriter and producer doing variety genres.

Fever:: When and what motivated you to pursue a musical career?

SM: I started [in the industry] in 2013. I joined Spen1 crew under Ps2 Production. I learnt a lot about music from guys like Snalo Cebekhulu and Khulekani Mkhwanazi. My music is mostly inspired by Stix Manyanyisa who was based in iNanda at those times, Jub-Jub and Dj Tira opened my eyes regarding music and led me where I am now.

I decided to start my own Label in March 2015 named SGM Records (Sfiso Gidion Mkhize Records) after seeing that my production skills were improving quickly and by the end of 2016 in October I decided to change it to SG Music Records (Simply Good Music Records).

Fever: How long have you been into music?

SM: At first I only followed music trying to figure out where I can fit in as my love for it was growing fast. However I started in 2010 while I was in Grade 8 at Umqhele Secondary School.

Fever: What type of music do you work with?

SM: My main genre is RnB trap,  I also do hip-hop, house (sgubhu) and a bit of electro

Fever: Who does your music cater for?

SM: My music caters for everyone - from children to the youth and adults. Even children from the age of six enjoy and sing my songs and that inspires me to keep my music simple.

Fever: What are some of the biggest mental tools you can get or have to be successful in this field?

SM: I think the most important of all is good publishing and getting my music in right hands and I also assume management can also play a big role in making a successful career.

Fever:If there was one word you could use to explain your experience so far while working in the music industry, what would it be?

SM: Challenging.

Fever: How do you keep your mind on your work without losing focus?

SM: I make sure there's not even one day that goes by without making time for my music, producing a beat or writing something, which I do most of the time when I'm on my phone because every line that pops up I write it. When come across something that inspires me I put it into music.

Fever: What do you do besides music?

SM: I have a normal job during the day as I'm not making money through my music as yet. Besides I need the money to attend shows and events.

Even children from the age of six enjoy and sing my songs and that inspires me to keep my music simple.
