WHEN online marketer, Don Dinnematin’s wife fell pregnant with their first child his whole life changed.

He felt overwhelmed about the future parenting learning curve, the anticipated hard work of parenting and the array of children’s necessities he had to buy, however, there was no advice for dads to be.

Searching online, he found tons of advice columns and blogs for moms, however, nothing aimed at the dad. Dinnematin soon launched a blog titled, “The Don Father”, to assist dads at this crucial time in their life.

“I launched ‘The Don Father’ in January 2016. Throughout our pregnancy, I found very little directed at soon-to-be-dads. There are plenty mom bloggers and we followed quite a few leading up to our daughter’s arrival, but there was nothing out there for me, you know, nothing aimed at a dad from a dad.

“I would have loved a platform to connect with during this new phase of our life. Most marketing and information is directed at moms, and although there is nothing wrong with that, us dads also need to be remembered.
“The Don Father is a platform that I hope will provide some light, fun reading for new dads and provide them with a little insight into this exciting chapter of their life, from a dad’s view,” he said.

Dinnematin said he takes pleasure in living life to the fullest.

“I am inspired by watching the life of a little baby grow, watching her leaves me in awe to think that the human body is capable of creating such perfection. I am inspired by my wife and her complete dedication and selflessness to our family,” said Dinnematin.

He said parenting has made him love life more.
“It is no longer just the two of us, there are now three and this tiny human has taken centre stage.
“A trip to the shops takes practise - you quickly learn the art of packing a nappy bag without forgetting something, you look for a parking bay closest to the entrance and you make sure you ‘trolley dash’ your way through the shops, at least in the beginning.

“Your circle of friends grows, and a night out with the boys has shifted to an afternoon at the game, while mom’s thrill in the gossip of baby play dates. You are home before 6pm to bath baby and take on your daddy duties.”

His message is that nobody teaches parenthood.

“We are moulded by our parents and we learn from experience and we can only try to get better at it.
“Log on and connect with me. I would love to hear from you. I’m no great expert, but I’m doing everything I can to be the best dad I can be,” he said.
