IN the true spirit of Mandela Day, the management and staff at Pine Crest Centre rallied together to pay it forward and hosted The Highway Aged to pay a special tribute to South Africa’s most revered public icon on 18 July.
Set to the theme of “Celebrating Madiba”, senior citizens from the home were treated to a quaint setting, live entertainment, celebratory birthday cake, and sumptuous snacks at Pine Crest Centre on Mandela Day.

According to Centre Manager of Pine Crest Centre, Zoe Kaseka, it is important to remember that Mandela Day is more than a commemoration of the life and legacy of Madiba. “Each year, Mandela Day serves as a time for us all to honour his life’s work and to engage in simple acts of kindness that can make the world a better place,” she said.
“This year at Pine Crest Centre, we thought what better way to honour and further the legacy of Nelson Mandela, than by adding some joy to the lives of the elderly who have so richly contributed to the heritage of our country and community?”

For more than two decades, The Highway Aged Pinetown has been a care centre for the elderly, providing on-going care for the region’s senior citizens.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the 50-strong guests that attended, Rishi Singh, care representative of The Highway Aged, said:  “We are extremely humbled and sincerely appreciative of this kind gesture from Pine Crest Mall management.
“A simple change of scenery for our elderly can make a world of difference for their emotional upliftment, and for this, we are truly grateful. Everyone present today has had a fantastic time.”

Through this event, Pine Crest Centre has yet again demonstrated its commitment to the community, and would like to encourage all shoppers and members of the public to embrace the principles of Mandela Day and to engage in random acts of kindness everyday. - Supplied.
