WHEN Meryl Trevethan, a volunteer remedial teacher at Ukusakwabasha School, heard about the Subz packs through the Nation Changers project at the City Hill church in Hillcrest, she knew this will benefit the girls at her school.

Treventhan immediately contacted Sue Barnes from Subz Pants and Pads and ordered 54 packs of Subz washable and reusable sanitary pads for the young ladies at the school.

Brenda McCann and Bongi Msomie from Subz visited Treventhan last Wednesday and chatted to the young ladies about puberty and menstruation. Msomie assisted with translation to ensure that the girls understood what they were being taught.

She is the SA netball captain and she also works for an NPO - Girls Only Project. Msomie chatted to the girls about sport and the importance of sport.

She also said that with the Subz packs the girls will be able to participate in sports without any fear during their period.

The girls were each given a pack of Subz washable and reusable sanitary pads and panties which should last the girls for up to three years. This is a huge relief for the young ladies as they now don’t have to worry about where they are going to find the money to buy sanitary wear each month. When asked about what they were currently using some of the girls said toilet paper and rags.

This was Subz’s last activation for the year and they are very much looking forward to all the exciting projects that are already being planned for the start of the 2017 school year.
