UPPER Highway sisters Siobhan (15) and Chanel (13) Duckitt have been chosen to perform at the Applause Rising Talent Showcase in Orlando, Florida, in August.

The dancing duo, who are pupils of the KZN Dance Centre in Hillcrest, will leave South Africa for New York on July 28 where they will attend a workshop at the New York Film Academy.
From there, they will fly to Orlando where they will perform for five days in front of international talent scouts from Sony Pictures and Disney.

These two St Mary’s DSG pupils began dancing when they were very young and have progressed into the amazing dancers they are today. KZN Dance Centre teacher Bonnie Hayman said: “Siobhan has been dancing since she was four years old and Chanel has been dancing since she was six years old.

“They have kept up with all their exams and have always worked exceptionally hard to achieve excellent results.”

She said that the sisters have participated and excelled in various festivals and competitions, including the Natal Dance Festival, SA Champs and Talent Africa for singing, dancing, acting and modelling, where they have received many silver and gold medals over the past few years. “Siobhan was also part of our 2016 New York Dance Experience Tour where she made the most of this fantastic experience. The girls have set high goals and are making the most of every opportunity they get,” she added.

The girls first auditioned in May in KZN for Just You Model and Artist Management director Elsubie Verlinden, and Elouise Janse van Rensburg.  They then moved to the next round to audition at the International Arts Talent Showcase at the Silverstar Casino in Johannesburg in October last year.  Siobhan and Chanel performed for international talent scout Kim Myers and got the news that they had made it through to perform in the United States.

The girls will perform in the monologue, TV commercial, film scene, improvisation, fashion runway, swimwear, photography, creative runway and theme runway divisions. Siobhan and Chanel will be dancing their solos as well as a a duet. Siobhan will also participate in the singing category.

The girls have been working extremely hard to reach their goal as professional dancers, models and actresses, and have attended “boot camps” to improve their talent.

“This is an opportunity and an experience of a lifetime and we wish the girls all the best on their journey. We know they will make KZN Dance Centre proud,” said Hayman.
