GOALS continued pouring in at the second encounter of Durban Under 19 International Football Tournament Group A matches with six goals being scored at King Zwelithini Stadium, last week.

Match day 3 of the tournament kicked off with a much anticipated KZN derby between KZN Academy XI led by Sboniso Vilakazi and Lamontville Golden Arrows led by Malusi Hlatshwayo that ended by 3-2 in favour of Abafana Besithende.

The much-anticipated encounter witnessed its first goal of the match through a well-taken the penalty by Mkhulili Ncube in the 20th minute of the game after a tackle by KZN Academy XI player inside the box.

KZN Academy XI regrouped, their well-coordinated build up from the back saw a well taken shot by Sibusiso Magaqa being saved by Arrows goalie, Mpilonhle Khanyezi in the 28th minute.

A good build up by Arrows from the back, penetrating through KZN Academy XI backline earned them a second goal in the 30th minute as the first half ended 2-0 in favour of Arrows.

A double substitution of KZN Academy XI in the second half saw the team regrouping and with new tactics when approaching the 18 area. A good combination of Sibusiso Magaqa and Zola Jingxi kept Arrows back four on their toes with their well-calculated passes and good crosses that kept dipping into the box.

The KZN derby also produced a first red card of the tournament when Mfanafuthi Mkhize of Golden Arrows was sent packing in the 62 minutes. That was wasn’t for long before Siphamandla Sabela consoled them with a beautiful goal in the 70th minute and that widened the score margin to 3-0.

KZN Academy continued with their fighting spirit and never say die attitude when Zola Jinxi’s well taken free kick from outside the box landed straight into Khanyezi’s hands.

Sboniso Vilakazi’s boys continued to apply pressure on Abafana Besithende and that earned them well deserved goal in 72 minutes of the game by Siphamandla Nene.

A strong combination of KZN Academy XI in the middle of the park showed that the team was hungry for a second goal. Their hard work paid off as they managed to secure a second goal in dying minutes of the game.

In the second match of the day, Arsenal FC collected the much-needed three points when beating Sporting Lisbon by 1-0. Sporting Lisbon commanded most parts of the first half as a shot by Daniel Branganca in the 8th minute of the game went straight to the bar.

Most of Arsenal FC shots were on target but Hugo Keto didn’t want anything in the poles. Both teams created so many chances but failed to convert them. As things stand Golden Arrows is on top of Group A with 4 points, followed by KZN Academy with 3points, Arsenal FC with 3 points and Sporting Lisbon with 1 point.
