Besigheid sluit deure oor diefstalle

MISDAAD het hier so handuit geruk dat ’n Hankey besigheideienaar genoop voel om na twee dekades sy deure te sluit.

Daar is gerugte dat nóg winkels wat vanjaar reeds verskeie kere onder inbrekers deurgeloop het, gaan toemaak.

“Ons kan nie meer so aangaan nie,” sê Wilma Cecil, die eienaar van Smoochies Meubels in Hankey. “In ons 20 jaar bestaan het ons 22 inbrake die hoof gebied. Ons kan nie meer nie, ons is op ons knieë.”

Smoochies Meubels sluit vandag, 2 April, sy deure vir goed.

Volgens Cecil, was daar in middel Maart twee keer by die winkel ingebreek.

“Die inbrekers het die diefwering by een van die agterste vensters afgebreek om toegang tot die gebou te ver-kry. Hulle het verder die kragboks beskadig sodat die alarm nie sal afgaan nie,” vertel Cecil.

“Hulle het die winkel behoorlik omgedop - goedere het die grond vol gelê en daar was skaars plek om te loop.

“Die Hankey Hotel en Local is Lekker het ook in die tydperk deurgeloop.”

Tydens vorige inbrake is stoele en tafels vol verf bemors, seile is stukkend gesny, deurhandvatsels is afgebreek en goed is na willekeur beskadig.

Volgens ’n inwoner wat anoniem wil bly, dra die stukkende straatlige van meer as twee jaar, grootliks by tot die toename in misdaad.

Volgens polisiewoordvoerder a.o. Basis Seekoei, is daar ’n toename in huisbrake in Hankey. “Die polisie handhaaf ’n hoë sigbaarheid in dié gebiede en misdaadvoorkoming strategieë is in plek om die situasie daadwerklik aan te spreek.”

Sake-eienaaars en inwoners word vriendelik versoek om hul eiendomme te beveilig en om vakante eiendomme by die polisiestasie te rapporteer sodat polisielede die eiendomme gereeld kan besoek. “’n Vergadering sal mettertyd met gemeenskaplede en sake-eienaars gereël word, om veiligheidkwessies aan te spreek,” sê Seekoei
