Carp Classic to be held in Kouga

2015-04-30 17:16

THE first Kouga Carp Classic will take place at the Elandsjagt Dam, also known as the Impofu Dam, near Jeffreys Bay from 05:00 to 14:00 on April 26.

Spearheaded by Chris du Toit, this competition is the first of its kind in the area. “There are a lot of fresh water anglers in the Kouga region, but there has never been a competition geared towards them,” says Du Toit.

The competition will be in the format of catch-and-release. “In the spirit of catch-and-release, we ask anglers to only keep their biggest fish and release the rest. When unhooking your fish, please try not to hurt or damage it,” says Du Toit.

According to Du Toit, the competition is for persons who like fishing and the camaraderie that goes with it. “If you compete, we implore you to do it in the spirit of a true gentleman. If there are any complaints towards you or your peg, you will be given a warning and a chance to redeem yourself. With the second complaint, you will be disqualified and asked to leave.”

Prizes will be awarded to the owner of the biggest carp, as well as the second and third biggest carp. Those who catch the biggest barber or kurper will also receive a prize.

The biggest fish will be determined by weight and not size. There will be no distinction between male and female anglers, as well as junior and senior competitors.

Various lucky draws will be up for grabs and the competitor who makes the biggest “boo-boo” will not walk away empty handed either.

The cost is R50 per rod per angler. A maximum of four rods and two hooks per rod will be allowed. Entries close on April 25. No tickets will be sold on the day of the competition.

For entry forms and more information, contact Du Toit at 082 050 4444 or send an email to cliff@mrweldrite.co.za
