PUT on your running shoes or even your high heels and join the St Francis parkrun for their second birthday celebration on June 27.

Runners, residents and visitors alike can indulge in some birthday cake sponsored by St Francis Links after the morning’s parkrun in celebration of this worthy milestone. Each participant finishing the parkrun will receive a Bos SPorts Drink sponsored by Bos Tea, and the male and female runner with the most points accumulated for each run or by being a volunteer will each receive a prize. Lucky draws will also be up for grabs.

Last week Jannie Venter from Jeffreys Bay was first over the line in a time of 18:25, followed by Tim Briscoe (18:36) and stalwart Felix Muchika (21:25). In the women’s category Nunie Davids was first in a time of 25:28 (8th overall), followed by Robyn Myburgh (25:31) and Tania Ras (26:50). The day saw 99 runners of whom 15 were first timers and 12 recorded new personal bests.

The greater St Francis joint the global parkrun family with their inaugural parkrun at the St Francis links on July 13, 2013. The event held the record for most participants at an inaugural run for almost a year.

Since that day, 1 896 different runners, many from abroad, have completed 10 401 runs at St Francis parkrun. That is a total distance of 52 005 km and there have been 2 060 new personal bests.

St Francis parkrun is held at the St Francis Links at 08:00 every Saturday at 08:00. It is a timed 5km run or walk and is free and open to all who want to join. New participants must register at www.parkrun.co.za to get their personal barcode. This barcode must be printed and presented at each parkrun in order for results to be emailed to them.
