THRILL seekers can look forward to plenty of speed and gravity-defying action at the first Jeffreys Bay Winter Festival this July.

A downhill skateboarding event will form part of the line-up at the Festival and will showcase some of the finest skating talent in South Africa.

This year’s Sokkie Jol will prove to be the best one yet. Af-ter two very successful years, Core Surf Skate Shop and Sector 9 will have the opportunity to blow the minds of both ska-ters and spectators alike.

“Last year saw the introduction of some spectacular ramps and obstacles that both tested and refined our understanding of what a gravity racing event. This year we will take our new found insight and bring you the best Sokkie Jol to date,” says event organiser Koffie Jacobs.

The Core Downhill Sokkie Jol Volume III will see new obstacles and a whole new funky vibe.

According to Jacobs, core promises to make this race faster, more technical and, most importantly, way more fun. “Best pack your ramp and free ride skills in your downhill backpack, because this year is going to be an all out downhill riot.”

For the skaters, the coarse will comprise of berms, rollers, tunnels and three 90 degree bends. Estimated top speed could reach up to 60kph. It’s a punchy and fast track that promises to challenge any skill level skater.

The Arbor Smoke and Mirrors night demo is also back. This event is all abut laser lights, smoke machines, flares and LED lights combined with the best free riding you will see in South Africa. “It’s a mash up between Downhill Longboarding and a trance party. So pack your lumo disco shorts and 80’s glam rock wig cause you’ll need it,” says Jacobs.

The Core Downhill Sokkie Jol will take place at Die Vrieskas’ Blue Water Estate in Jeffreys Bay at 09:00 on July 18. Registration takes place at 08:00. For more information, contact Koffie Jacobs at 074 886 0908 or send an email to
