TOP South African and local open water swimmers will tackle the ice cold water of Marina Martinique this July.

Now in its third year running, the InFood Blu Cold Water Classic is set to take place in the salt water canals of Marina Martinique on July 18 as part of the JBay Winterfest.

Swimmers can test themselves by swimming 7.5km or 2.5km in ±12°C water.

The 7.5m will be held according to Cape Long Distance Swim Association rules, which state that swimmers may wear only a speedo type costume, goggles and a swim cap. However, the 2.5km is open to swimmers who want to wear wetsuits, as well as swimmers who wish to swim according to traditional rules and only wear their costumes.

Only pre-entries are accepted for the Infood Blu Cold Water Classic. Entries are open at www.swimmingplus.com

How much food do you need to concentrate?

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
