ONS rugbymanne is koning. Die o.19 A-span van die Humansdorp Sekondêre Skool is die trots van die dorp na hulle die naweek as kampioene in die afdeling vir klein skole tydens die Steinhoff Maties Rugby Top Skole-toernooi gekroon is.

In die finaal op die Danie Craven-stadion op Stellenbosch, het Humansdorp vir Malibu (WP) met 42-29 pakgegee.

Die top-skole van die WP, Boland, SWD en die Oostelike Provinsie aan die kompetisie deelgeneem. Humansdorp het die finaal bereik toe hulle vroeër vir York High (SWD) met 23-13 in die halfeindstryd verslaan het.

Die Humansdorp-span het in die einstryd puik aanvallende rugby gespeel in die eindstryd en die spelers se ratse voetwerk het gereeld groot applous van die skare uitge-lok.

Die agsterste driehoek van Humansdorp - Duane Louis (heelagter), Nathan George en Tarquin Alexander (vleuels) - was onder die groot uitblinkers, terwyl Ruchard Harris op losskakel het met sy breekslae en goeie balverspreiding geskitter.

Humansdorp-skrumskakel Elschen May was dalk verreweg die kleinste speler op die veld, maar sy spelpeil was soos die ou rugbygesegde: “Klein, maar getrein.”

Dit was vir die seuns van Humansdorp Sekondêr ‘n groot eer en ervaring om op die beroemde Danie Cravenstadion te kon speel.

Die span se afrigters verdien ook lof, want die span se vaardigheidsvlak was van hoë gehalte.

Puntemakers: Drieë is gedruk deur George (2), Alexander (2), Louis en Francois Syce (slot). Alexander het met drie doelskoppe en twee strafdoele geslaag
