A handful of local martial artists brought home no less than seven World Champion titles and 31 medals and trophies.

Five martial Artists from Potts Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Jeffreys Bay recently participated in the 42nd annual US Open World ISKA Sport Martial Arts Championships in Orlando, Florida. Some 61 countries and over 6 000 participants competed at this event.

The five martial artists from Jeffreys Bay are:

Shihan Steve Potts (5th Dan)

Black Belt Class “AA” Division: second place in Points Fighting and Clash Sparring, fifth place in Self-Defence and a finalist in Traditional Forms.

Sempai Brody Steyn (2nd Kyu)

Black Belt Class A Division: first place in Clash Sparring, second place in an Exhibition Bout, third place in Continuous and Points Sparring, fifth place in Self-Defence and a finalist placings in Traditional and Traditional Weapons Forms.

Sensei Tracey Potts (1st Dan)

Black Belt Class A Division: 1st Place in both Continuous Sparring and Clash Sparring; 2nd Place in Points Sparring; 4th Place in Traditional Weapons Kata, 5th Place in Self-Defence and Finalist in Traditional Forms. Sensei Tracey was also a member of the South African tour management team.

Sempai Marius du Toit (1st Dan)

Black Belt Class A Division: first place in Points and Clash Sparring, second place in Extreme Weapons Musical Forms, third place in Continuous Sparring, fifth place in Self-Defence and a finalist in Traditional Forms.

Marco Grobler

Under Black Belt Intermediate Division: first place and new world record for High Kick, first place for Clash Sparring; fifth place for Self-Defence and finalist placings for Points and Continuous Sparring and Traditional Forms
