SEVEN arrests were made and 126 fines totalling more than R80 000 were issued during a joint safety operation in Kouga over the Easter weekend.

The roadblock was conducted over two days on the N2 outside Thornhill by the Kouga and Provincial Traffic Departments, local police and the canine unit.

According to the official report, a total number of 1 323 vehicles and 1 127 drivers and passengers were searched du-ring the operation.

Four drug-related arrests were made for possession of mandrax and dagga while three drivers were arrested for drunken driving.

“We value this spirit of cooperation. Together we can help to make Kouga a safe place for all.”
