WHAT do owners of Italian luxury cars and the protectors of sealife have in common?

An unquenchable passion for life.

In line with this passion, the Eastern Province Alfa Romeo Club will host a charity run from Port Elizabeth to Cape St Francis on April 19 in aid of the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB).

On route members of the club will collect donations for SANCOBB.

Club members will depart from the Supa Quick Auto Centre at 11:00 and stop at the Wimpy in Jeffreys Bay at noon before continuing their journey to SANCCOB’s seabird centre.

Once at the Seal Point lighthouse in St Francis Bay at 14:00 they will release two rehabilitated penguins, christened Alfa and Romeo, back into the wild. All members of the public are invited to join the public penguin release.

The club and SANCCOB appeal to the public to support this important campaign by making a monetary donation or by donating an item on SANCCOB’s wish list before April 1.

The preferred donation items include:

) R50 for a 5kg box of pilchards

) R125 towards veterinary care

) R250 towards pool and pen maintenance

) R500 towards an African penguin’s rehabilitation and release costs

Or any of the following wish list items:

) Old towels for the centre’s intensive care unit patients

) Old wetsuit sleeves for staff and patient well-being

) Small plastic containers for storing medical supplies

) Any stationery toward the centre’s environmental education programme

Drop-off points for donations include the Supa Quick Auto Centre (Linton Grange, Port Elizabeth), Wimpy (Fountains Mall, Jeffreys Bay) and the SANCCOB seabird centre in Cape St Francis. Each drop-off point will have a big penguin money box for monetary donations and a SANCCOB-labelled deposit box for donated goods.
