INWONERS van Kouga se geduld raak al minder en hul beursies al dunner weens paaie wat in ’n al swakker toestand is.

Sedert die onlangse reën is paaie op die dorp in ’n baie swak toestand. “Ek dink nie daar is ’n straat in Kouga wat nie ’n slaggat het nie,” sê ontstoke inwoner Ben de Villiers.

“Behalwe vir slaggate, wat met die reën soos paddastoele orals opgeduik het, is die toestand van sypaadjies besig om ’n kopseer te word. Padtekens wat nie herstel word nie, hou ’n verdere bedreiging vir motoriste in.

“Jy moet soos ‘n cowboy bestuur as jy soggens werk toe gaan. Ná elke vierde week is jou motor se wielsporing heeltemal uit en inwoners gaan selfs so ver om slaggate met klippe op te vul wat dit nog gevaarliker vir motoriste maak.’’

Inwoners is dit eens - die toestand van plaaslike paaie en strate is lankal verby die kritieke merk en dring daarop aan dat die Kouga-munisipaliteit moet optree.

Volgens DA raadslid Freddy Campher is daar tydens ’n munispale vergadering op 19 Mei vanjaar die belofte gemaak dat daar teen 1 Julie met die skraap van paaie begin sou word. “Tot nou het nog niks gebeur nie,” sê Campher.

“Ons hoop dat daar binnekort ’n skraper beskikbaar sal wees om in die behoeftes van die gemeenskap te voorsien.”
