THERE is only one day left before the Equinox Mall in Jeffreys Bay will be filled with trash - that is wearable and fashionable trash.

The fourth annual Global Leadership Academy (GLA) Trashy Fashion Show will take to the stage at the Equinox Mall on September 4. Models dressed in old balloons, cold drink cans, bottle caps, newspapers and even wire will awe the audience, and who knows, even inspire some new fashion trends in Jeffreys Bay.

This year, a panel of judges has been appointed and participants will compete in various age categories. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: Most Original Dress, Miss Personality, Public Favourite, Biggest Variety of Recycled Goods Used, Characters Built out of Recycled Goods, Most Creative Accessories, and Most Creative Dress.

The winners will be announced in the Kouga Express of September 10.

Donate old clothes

This year, the organisers of the Trashy Fashion Show strung a washing line at Checkers at the Equinox Mall where residents can donate their old clothes. The clothes will be sold during a vintage sale at the show, while the remaining clothes will be donated to the less fortunate.

Donate an evening dress

Donate an evening/ matric dance dress and make a young lady’s dream come true. The organisers are appealing to all residents to donate any dresses, jewellery, make-up and perfume that will go towards matric learners unable to afford these things.

Loads of tasty homemade goods and crafts will be on sale at the night market from 18:00, and live music will entertain the crowd. Funds raised will go towards the building of GLA’s Eco Campus.

All models need to be at Equinox Mall between 17:00 and 17:30 to get dressed and have their photos taken. The fashion show will start at 18:30.

Tickets cost R20 for adults and R10 for children. Tickets are available at the school and will be on sale at the door on the evening of the fashion show.
