AFTER months of searching for our first ever Miss Matric Dance, the winner has finally been chosen last week.

She is the radiant Jeanni Mulder from Nico Malan High School who bowled the judges over with her stunning dress and overall look for her matric dance at Mentorskraal in Jeffreys Bay. Her dance was held on July 25.

Jeanni’s dress was made by Antwané (Antoinette Saayman) from Jeffreys Bay.

“I looked for a lot of examples on Instagram and Google – and this specific dress just caught my eye,” Jeanni replied on where the inspiration for her dress came from.

Her hair was done by Poppie from Beautique Salon and Githe Meret-Muir did her make-up. Beautique Photography (Fanie Laubscher) did her photoshoot.

According to Jeanni, her mother planned her matric dance as early as February. “I didn’t have to worry about anything. I just had to show up. #ThanksMom,” she said.

She was accompanied to her dance by her boyfriend, Christiaan Oliphant. Asked if she would change anything about her special evening she said: “I wouldn’t change a thing . . . well maybe just one – while we were dancing, I fell. That is something I would want to change, but everything else was just perfect. The food was amazing and I took a lot of sweets home!”

After hearing about the Miss Matric Dance competition from her grandmother, Jeanni decided to enter the competition.

“I was very excited and felt blessed, because the other girls were so beautiful and also deserved to win,” she described the moment she found out she won the competition.

In her free time she loves watching series and movies, she loves to gym, go biking, jogging, ice skating, spending time with her friends and dogs and loves music, photography and cooking.

She will be moving to Cape Town in January to continue her modelling work for Boss Models.

Her advice for next year’s matriculants attending a matric dance? “The only advice I can give them is to just be yourself, be thankful for this opportunity your pa-rents gave you, be with the people you enjoy spending time with, take lots of photos to capture this magical moment and enjoy it responsibly!”
