AVID rugby player, Aswen Rademeyer (12) from Humansdorp, is dreaming of representing his country in Spain and France later this year as part of the Riebeek Vallei Invitational Team.

Rademeyer, a grade 7 learner at Stulting Primary School, was put through his paces at the 2017 Riebeek Vallei Tournament at Riebeek Kasteel Primary School last month, where he impressed the panel of professional selectors and was selected for the final team.

The Riebeek Vallei Invitational Team will have the opportunity to travel to France and Spain where they will test their skills against some of France’s best rugby teams. They will furthermore participate in a training session and go on some excursions.

The team will depart on September 27 and return on October 6.

“It was really exciting to be selected. The tournament was difficult and tiring, but it was all worth it in the end,” says Rademeyer who currently plays centre for his school’s rugby team. He also plays for Kouga Rugby.

“It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

When not on the rugby field, he plays cricket for his school, and is also part of the Kouga Cricket Team and the Kouga Cricket Performance Centre Team.

Rademeyer is furthermore a star on the athletic field. It thus came as no surprise when he was named Stulting’s Sport man of the Year for 2016.

However, before his dream can become a reality, Rademeyer needs to raise close to R34 000 - money that his family does not have.

Donations can be made to Aswen Rademeyer, Absa Bank, account 9264680766, savings account, reference Riebeek Vallei.

For more information, contact Aswen Rademeyer (senior) at 083 342 6093 or Aderlena Rademeyer at 072 547 3050.
