DO you want to learn more about the Baviaanskloof before embarking on an unforgettable journey through 200 square kilometres of unspoilt, rugged, mountainous terrain?

Then stop at the Baviaanskloof World Heritage Site Interpretive Centre on your left as you enter the Baviaanskloof from Patensie.

Do not be deterred by the chain and no entry sign. Park your vehicle in the parking space provided on the right and take the steep and winding path to the top of the building.

Be prepared to be amazed. The wide wooden deck around the centre and the look-out point, offer an unspoilt view of the Cambria Valley.

The R4.5 million Centre was launched in December 2007. It forms part of the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve and was funded by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. During the construction, training opportunities were provided to local community members and about 300 temporary jobs were created to alleviate poverty.

The Centre celebrates the rich and unique biodiversity found in the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve, providing visitors with a wealth of relevant and interesting information abut Baviaanskloof.

It is a focal point at which visitors can gain first-hand information about Baviaanskloof and enhance their appreciation of this unique natural environment.

Information boards display educational material on the Nature Reserve, its cultural and natural importance, as well as the accommodation and activities it offers.
