CALTEX Wavelands in St Francis Street, Jeffreys Bay has gone green at its wash bay - encouraging a long term water efficiency ethic in the business.

Taking the lead, Caltex saves approximately 70% of water by harvesting and recycling water at their wash bay.

With strict water restrictions imposed on all car wash facilities in the Kouga region, resulting in significant loss of business, Caltex installed a water-recycling filtration system which reduced the amount of fresh water used per wash.

According to Caltex Wash Bay Manager, Allister Krebs, the car wash process recycles up to 70% of the water used which is cleaned to about 90% clarity and has reduced the need for municipal water significantly.

We have installed a water pit underneath the current wash bay. Once the pit researches a certain level, the water is channelled through the newly installed filtration system before it is stored in a 2 500l water tank for re-use.

“The pit is not emptied 100%. This is to ensure that none of the dirt and mud that ga-thers at the bottom, is channelled through to the filtration system.

“Our water recycling initiative is aimed at limiting any impact on the local water supply system. Water conservation and management is something we take really seriously,” says Krebs.
