A female driver ploughed through the boundary and garage wall of a Wavecrest home in Jeffreys Bay.

The driver lost control of her vehicle at about 21:00 on Sunday night, drove over an empty plot, narrowly missed an electricity box, crashed throught the boundary wall - which was recently repaired after a previous accident - and came to a standstill when she hit the garage wall of Michelle Klerck’s house on the corner of Noorsekloof and Seetuin.

According to Klerck, apart from the damages to the boundary wall, severe structural damage was caused to the garage.

“The windows are broken and there are several huge cracks. It is so bad that I cannot even attempt to remove my vehicle from the garage.

Residents now demand that speed reducing measuring be put in place.

Kouga Mayor Elza van Lingen visited the affected residents on Wednesday to have a look at the accident scene.

“The road is one of the main access roads used by emergency vehicles, which limits to what extent speed-calming measures can be introduced,” says van Lingen.

“The safety of our residents is of great importance, however, and our Traffic Department has been instructed to look at the possibility of placing rumble strips at high-risk sections of Noorsekloof Road. Signage to warn motorists of dangerous bends will also be put up as a matter of urgency.”
