ANGLERS can ‘reel in’ thousands of Rands and a Nissan this July.

The Fishing Skins and Catch-a-Nissan competitions will take place at Kabeljous on July 16 and 17.

The competition will kick off on the Saturday where anglers with the biggest fish can win R3 500 an hour from 07:30 to 12:30 - R17 500 in total.

The competition will be fished on a catch-and-release basis in order to promote responsible angling. The edible fish caught on the day count 10 points and the non-edibles will count one point.

Anglers are allowed two rods.

The men can help cast for the ladies and children; however, the fish needs to be hooked and reeled in by the angler to be eligible for the prizes.

With this format, any fish is a potential prize winner.

An exciting edition to the fishing competition is the Catch-a-Nissan Competition from 07:30 to 12:30 on July 17.

In contrast with the Skins Competition, this competition is an edible competition only and fish are measured. All measurements will be rounded down.

The winning fish will come from the following categories:

  • Target species: dusky kob, white musselcracker, white steenbras and leervis
  • Length: between 40cm and 90cm
  • Rod: one rod per angler
  • Age: anglers must be over 18 and have a valid driver’s licence.

Once all the weigh cards are in, competition sponsors PSG and Nissan will draw a species out of a bag. A measurement will then be drawn out of a second bag. This will be the fish that wins his owner the Nissan.

Tickets that enter anglers into both competitions cost R200 for men, R150 for ladies and R50 for kids u.16.

Apart from the main prizes, various other prizes and give-aways will be up for grabs.
