Conquer a mile this December

2016-12-15 06:01

ONE of the most popular events on the December holiday programme, the Marina Mile, is set to take place at Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay on December 30.

First staged in the 1990s, the Mile is firmly entrenched as a bucket list event for holidaymakers and locals alike.

Marina Martinique is renowned as a world class open water swim venue and has seen a number of Olympians like Natalie du Toit, Chad Ho, Martina Grimaldi, Chris Reed and Jessica Roux compete in events.

The salt water canals are protected from tides and currents, as well as wildlife, making it a great venue for those starting out in open water, as well as youngsters who are still gaining their confidence.

For experienced open water swimmers, the thrill of swimming through the canals, surrounded by Marina residents cheering them from the banks, ensures a unique swim experience.

This year the Double Mile will be the first event in the water at 09:00.

The 500m event will kick off at 11:00, followed by the Bank-to-Bank swim at 11:30.

The feature event, the Marina Mile will start at 12:00.

There are plenty of prizes up for grabs including Oakley sunglasses, as well as lucky draws. ntries are open at
