Dreigende water tekort lei tot rampsverklaring

HOE om te sorg dat daar water in almal se krane bly te midde van ‘n voortslepende droogte is tans een van Kouga se grootste uitdagings.

Waterbeperkings en straftariewe word sedert Desember 2016 toegepas en nog hoër straf-tariewe het in werking getree in August 2017.

‘n Dringende beroep is ook op inwoners gedoen om hul waterverbruik met ten minste 25% te verminder.

Die droogte en dreigende water tekorte het die Kouga-raad op 31 Mei 2017 genoop om Kouga tot ’n plaaslike rampsgebied te verklaar. Die verklaring maak dit moontlik vir die raad om aansoek te doen vir ekstra befondsing vir die implementering van ’n waternoodplan.

‘n Beroep word voorts op alle gemeenskappe gedoen om water spaarsamig te gebruik.
