First budget makes history

2017-08-17 06:05

THE first budget of Kouga’s Council, as elected in August 2016, made headlines when it was adopted unanimously by all councillors on 31 May 2017.

It was the first time that the municipality’s annual budget was approved unopposed and without conditions.

Highlights included a 20% reduction in the cost to hire halls and sports facilities, as well as cemetery and burial-related tariffs, as had been requested by communities.

In order to stimulate development in previous disadvantaged areas a 20% reduction for land use applications in these areas, including rezoning, departures and subdivisions was also approved.
