2015-12-17 06:00

HOLIDAY goers are in for some feathered fun as SANCCOB (the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) Eastern Cape is hosting their second Penguin Holiday Festival from December 20 to 29.

The 10-day festival includes events and activities for the whole family such as the Penguin Charity Golf Day, two public penguin releases, shows by renowned Koos Kombuis, Wendy Oldfield and Gerald Clark and band, a Penguin Open Air Cinema, full-moon beach walk, beach smash-ball tournament, a kids holiday programme, penguin art exhibition fundraiser in the iconic Seal Point Lighthouse, and private tours at the SANCCOB seabird Rehabilitation centre next to the lighthouse.

The Penguin Festival will kick off with a public penguin release of African penguins rehabilitated at SANCCOB, coupled with the opportunity to adopt the penguins being released. Throughout the festival young and old will be reminded about the threats facing penguins and other seabirds and the ocean and what they can do to help.
