The 10th annual St Francis Sport Summer Series is set to kick off on December 19, sporting new routes and new events.

This year’s jam-packed sporting calendar consists of nine events, including a charity event in aid of SANCCOB. Sport enthusiasts can look forward to swimming, running, cycling and paddling, as well as a combination of these three disciplines at different venues in St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis.

Kicking off the sporting activities on Monday, December 19, is a 5km and 15km road run starting at the Cape St Francis Resort. Runners will continue to follow the route via Da Gama Road into the St Francis Field and back to the Cape St Francis Resort.

On December 20 the action will move to Sea Glades Drive for the annual canal swim. Under-12 swimmers can prove their mettle in the bank-to-bank swim, while older swimmers can tackle the 500m, 1km, 2km or 3km swims.

The duathlon, consisting of a swim and road run, will take place at Sea Glades Drive on December 21. Participants can compete individually or as a team and can either conquer the 500m swim and 3km run category of the event, or the 1km swim and 6km run category.

December 22 will see the first trail run at the Duneridge Nature Reserve. The scenery promises to be spectacular. Runners can choose between 5km and 15km.

On December 23 the action moves to the St Francis Field for the Extreme Duathlon. Do not underestimate the 15km mountain bike ride and 5km trail run, as the conditions are rough.

The 15km and 30km Mountain Bike Challenge will pedal off at the Duneridge Nature Reserve on December 27. The jeep tracks and grassy roads promise to be a challenge.

The popular Quadrathlon will take place at Sea Glades Drive on December 29. Individuals and teams can challenge each other over a 12km cycle, 300m swim, 3km run and a 3km paddle.

Also on December 29 is a 5km New Moon Penguin Walk at the Cape St Francis Main Beach parking area at 19:30 for 20:00. Headlamps are required and glow sticks will be for sale. The entry fee is a cash donation towards SANCCOB.

The Open Water Swim will start and finish at Granny’s Pool in Harbour Road, St Francis Bay on December 30, with December 31 the reserve day. The route will be finalised on the day taking weather conditions into consideration.

All the events, apart from the New Moon Penguin Walk, start at 08:00. Registration is 60 minutes before each event at the respective venues, while race briefing will be 15 minutes before the start of the event.

The entry fee for all the events is R80 and R50 for children under 14. Entry forms are available at St Francis Tourism and Custom Bikes.
