THE Kruisfontein Rugby Club is all geared up for their Legends Cup Rugby Festival which will see ten teams battling it out for top honours at the Humansdorp Country Club on November 7.

Apart from being crowned the winners, the winning team will walk away with a total of R20 000 in prize-money.

The Legends Cup, now in its second year, is aimed at honouring those sporting legends who have contributed to the upliftment of Kruisfontein and its residents.

The day will kick-off with two local junior teams taking to the field at 08:00. They will be followed by the senior teams at 09:00.

The defending champions, Spring Rose, will face some stiff competition in the cut-throat nature of the knock-out format from competitors Progress, Gardens, Harlequins and African Bombers. Adding to the mix are Kouga teams Humansdorp United, Jeffreys Bay, Loerie and Patensie Barbarians.

According to Kruisfontein Rugby Club secretary Elton Juba they received an overwhelming number of entries, but could only accommodate ten clubs. “It is our goal to grow the festival annually,” says Juba.

Partnering with Woodlands Dairy for a second year in a row, as well as with South African Breweries, the event promises to be even bigger and better than last year.

In addition to the Legends Cup, the Kruisfontein Rugby Club Golf Day will take place at the St Francis Links on November 14, while a gala banquet will be held at Lombardini Game Farm on November 21 with SA Rugby Union deputy president Mark Alexander.

The first round draw for the festival is:

. 09.00: Spring Rose v Progress (Country Club)

. 10.05: Kruisfontein v Patensie Barbarians (Country Club)

. 10.05: Jeffreys Bay RC v Gardens (Vosloo Park)

. 11.10: PE Harlequins v Humansdorp United (Country Club)

.11.10: African Bombers v Trying Stars (Vosloo Park)
