A Jeffreys Bay cooperative has been offered the opportunity of a lifetime.

The cooperative, Do It Well, received a brick-making machine from the East Cape Department of Rural Deve-lopment and Agrarian Reform.

They will be operating their business from premises at Ocean View, which was made available by Kouga Municipality, while Vlakteplaas Quarry has been assisting them with training.

Outgoing Local Economic Development (LED) Portfolio Councillor Phumzile Oliphant said Vlakteplaas Quarry had approached the municipality with the offer to train brick-makers.

“Training is part of the company’s Social and Labour Plan, as required by the Department of Mineral Resources. This linked up perfectly with the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP). Hence, our partnership was born,” he explained.

Sinoxolo Higa and Michael Oliphant are two of the first Do It Well members to receive training, with more to follow.

“The timing could not have been better, with several RDP projects underway,” said the Portfolio Councillor. “We wish them all the best and look forward to their growing from strength to strength.”
