Marine Mile to splash off this weekend

2015-12-10 06:00

DUST off your swim goggles, put on your swimming gear and set off to the pristine salt water canals of Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay for the annual Marina Mile on December 13.

The action starts on Saturday morning when swimmers will be faced with a double mile through the canals. This will be followed by a 500m swim aimed at swimmers who are not quite comfortable with swimming a mile, but still want to take part in the day’s activities, and a 40m bank-to-bank swim for u.10 swimmers who are new to open water swimming.

The action will hot up at 11:30 when the Marina Mile takes to the water. The Marina Mile which first took place in 1994 is one of the most popular open water swim events in South Africa.

The day will come to a close with the Dash 4 Cash swim at 14:00. This swim tests the fitness and endurance of swimmers, while also forcing swimmers to use tactical awareness if they want to win. A number of 100m heats are swum, with swimmers falling out every heat until there are only two swimmers left in the dash for cash.

The entry fees are R200 for the Double Mile, R100 for the 500m swim, R150 for the Marina Mile and R120 for the Dash for Cash.

Entries are open at www.swimmingplus.com. Late entries will be accepted on the day.
