Mayor fit to hold public office

2016-10-20 06:00

WIDESPREAD rumours claiming that the newly elected mayor for Kouga, Elza van Lingen, is not fit to hold public office, is devoid of any truth.

The Kouga Municipality said in a statement that Van Lingen is receiving treatment for a medical condition, but the rumours, that she is extremely ill, are untrue.

“She is performing her functions and leading the Mayoral Committee – and, in effect, the Kouga Municipality.

“She is currently driving relevant issues, such as to ensure that all processes and procedures will be adhered to, should Thyspunt go ahead. Van Lingen is working on a feasible plan to replace the municipa-lity’s vehicle fleet to ensure services are delivered to all residents, especially during the upcoming holiday season.” Her treatment is scheduled to end by December.
