YOUNG sport stars from Kouga recently received a special send-off from Executive Mayor Elza van Lingen ahead of them taking part in provincial and national sports tournaments during July.

The Mayor hosted the rugby, soccer and netball players, together with the Kouga Sports Council, at her office in Jeffreys Bay.

“We are very proud of you. Every town or region needs its own icons, people who do great things and who inspire others to do well. You are already doing it at your age,” she says.

Present at the send-off function were Gregan Glover, Jayren Draghoender and Armand Kemp (all 17 years old), who were selected for the Eastern Province team to take part in the Craven Week tournament at St Stithians College in Johannesburg.

Adnethia Scheepers (14), Yondre Jansen (16) and Jami-Leigh Goeda (16), who represented the province at the South African Schools Netball Championships in Boksburg, were also present.

Set to put Kouga’s soccer skills on show at the Provincial Soccer Championships to be held at Addo, were Sarah Baartman District team members Zixolise Mahodi (16), Siphosethu Booysen (19), Luvolwethu Ndaku (19), Dennis Peterson (19), Mihlali Msizi (19) and Zandre Williams (20).

Van Lingen says she is confident the athletes will do well as Kouga is abundantly blessed with talent.
