Motorfietsklub brul vir oud-soldate

PLAASLIKE besigheideienaars, ouers en inwoners het vroeër vandeesmaand hul dasse, hoëhakskoene en sport-nutsvoertuie vir leerbaadjies, stewels en blink ysterperde verruil.

Dié motorfietsliefhebbers het op 7 Mei deur die strate van Jeffreysbaai gebrul ter viering van die stigting van die Silent Soldiers Jeffreysbaai Motorfietsklub.

Die Silent Soldiers is ’n nasionale klub met lede regoor die land, wat hulle daarvoor beywer om alle oud Angola-stryders by te staan wat sedert 1966 tot 1989 in die Angola-oorlog betrokke was. Talle van die veterane is ernstig beseer of het ledemate verloor. Die klub is ter nagedagtenis aan diegene wat hul lewe tydens die oorlog verloor het.

Volgens Frikkie Mulder, vise-president van die Silent Soldiers Jeffreysbaai Motorfietsklub wat tans met 13 lede spog, is hulle betrokke by liefdadigheidswerk en help graag waar hulle kan. “Ons doel is om oud-veterane met die skenking van rolstoele, loopringe of selfs finansieel by te staan.”

Volgens Mulder bestaan die klub hoofsaaklik uit ouer lede. “Een van die reëls van die klub is, dat alle lede en voorgenome lede in die Mag diens gedoen het - hetsy dit die Polisie, Weermag of Gevangenisdiens is.”

Die klub kom gereeld op Sondae bymekaar.
