LOAD by load the dream of their very own sports field is being realised.

However, after months of hard work and thousands of Rand, a lack of funding has stopped the project dead in its tracks.

In a bid to promote sport development at Pellsrus Primary School in Jeffreys Bay, Principal Irwin de Vries started upgrading the open field at the back of the school in order for it to be used as a much-needed sports field.

“We have managed to raise R20 000 to clean and level the field,” says De Vries. “We desperately need another R15 000 to remove about 60 loads of rubbish, before we can start planting the grass. Residents are also more than welcome to assist with the removal of the rubbish.”

Once completed, the sports field will be used for rugby, cricket, soccer and athletics.

Not stopping there, De Vries hopes to upgrade the netball field in the near future, as well as to construct change room facilities to be used during sport days.

Also in the pipeline is the construction of a school library, the introduction of a core value project and a reading programme to assist learners.

“It is our dream to transform the school into a community hub, but we cannot do it alone. We need the support of the community and local businesses,” says De Vries.
