WHEN Aviwe Sibeko (16) takes to the stage, nationally or internationally, she envisions more than lustre with a generous amount of admiration.

She sees an unprecedented opportunity to inspire and educate upcoming, young artists through performing arts - a chance for people from all walks of life to comingle and dream big.

When Sibeko, a grade 11-learner at the Global Leadership Academy (GLA) in Jeffreys Bay, started out in the performing arts industry, she was just a young girl who had dreams of pushing boundaries, unlocking new levels and reaching new heights through what she had always been passionate about: performing, whether it is singing, acting, dancing or modelling.

Now, after years of hard work and determination, she is off to Orlando in Florida where she will represent South Africa and showcase her talent on the international stage after being hand-picked by Orlando talent scout Kim Myers. Sibeko, who will be dancing, singing, acting and creative runway, will be joined by 39 other contestants from all over the world from July 28 July to August 9 - all hoping to impress the international talent scouts and secure themselves a scholarship and a spot in the world of performing arts.

Apart from performing, the contestants will be attending a seven-day convention on performing arts before taking to the stage, and visiting the Film Academy in New York.

Through her participation, Sibeko hopes to inspire local youth to attack their goals with passion and energy.

"With hard work and determination, nothing is impossible," says Sibeko who joined her local church choir when she was only 7-years-old. It was in those moments she knew that performing was her calling.

Upon returning from Orlando, Sibeko, whose support system and role models are Elsabe van der Linde and Eloise Jansen van Rensburg from Just You Management in Johannesburg, hopes to plough her new-gained knowledge back into the community through workshops.

After matric, Sibeko wants to study musical theatre at either Rhodes University or the University of Johannesburg.
