Twee tuinreuse vergiftig

WAT eens ’n sprokiestuin vir haar agterkleinkinders moes wees, is nou net twee kaalgestroopte, dooie bome.

’n Reuse Witstinkhoutboom en Melkhoutboom, wat 26 jaar terug hul wortels in die koel grond by Borsboomstraat in Jeffreysbaai gevestig het, is onlangs deur kwaaddoeners vergiftig.

Die bome het ’n ruk gelede skielik begin doodgaan,” sê Griesel. “Ek het alles in my vermoë gedoen om die bome te red. Die gras rondom die bome het ook begin doodgaan; toe het ons geweet . . . daar is niks meer wat ons kan doen nie. Nie eers ’n bekwame span tuindienste kon hulle van hul wrede lot red nie - vergifting.”

Griesel vertel sy was onsettend teleurgesteld en omgekrap. “Ek het vir dae dikmond rondgeloop. Ek was besig om ’n fantasietuin vir my agterkleinkinders by die bome te maak. Tevergeefs.”

Griesel verkies om nie te bespiegel oor wié die bome kon vergiftig het nie.
