A family has been left homeless after a fire left their informal house in Ocean View, Jeffreys Bay, in ruins.

Apart from the clothes they were wearing on that day, they have lost everything - including their ID-documents.

They are now appealing to the community to assist them in any way possible to get back on their feet again.

The house of Mzuvukile Silwana, his wife Nomava and their 7-month-old baby Lwethu, caught fire on at approximately 16:41 on March 1.

According to Nomava, while boiling water on the paraffin stove, she went out to fetch more water from the closest tap that is about 2km from their house. “When I got back, the house was on fire,” says a devastated Nomava.

“We lost everything in the fire. Community members and the Fire Department tried to extinguish the fire, but it was a windy day and they could not do much.”

The Silwana-family is currently staying with a family member, Pretty Sibeko. They are in need of a wendy house (place to stay), blankets, clothing and food.

To help the Silwana family, contact Mzuvukile at 062 907 1731 or Pretty at 078 749 5774.
