WERKERS in die Langkloof verruil deesdae hul oorpakke en stewels vir kort rom-pies en tekkies.

Meng dié nuwe uitrusting met ’n groot skeut mededingendheid, ’n knippie of twee talent en ’n maatemmer vol sportmangees, en jy kry die nuutgestigde netballiga van Dutoit Oos-Kaap in Joubertina.

Dutoit Oos-Kaap, in samewerking met plase en pakstore in die omgewing, het vroeër vandeesmaand kragte saamgesnoer om ’n spesiale netballiga vir hul werkne-mers op die been te bring. Binne weke het dié inisiatief vanaf ’n skamele vier spanne na agt gegroei.

Elke span spog met sy eie afrigter en skeidsregter.

Die spelers sê mekaar elke naweek die stryd aan. Die twee spanne met die meeste punte sal aan die einde Svan eptember teen mekaar te staan kom. Die wenspan sal ’n trofee en netbal-uitrusting van Dutoit Oos-Kaap ontvang.

En wie weet, dalk daag van die spanne eersdaags bestuurslede vir ’n wedstryd uit.

Volgens spanorganiseerder George Bokkies, is die doel van die liga om die verhouding tussen werkers van regoor die Langkloof te versterk.

“’n Positiewe verandering is reeds in die werkers se gedrag merkbaar,” sê Bokkies.

“Verder hoop ons om die gemeenskap as toeskouers te betrek, en om veral die jeug te motiveer om by sport betrokke te raak.

“Ons hoop om die inisiatief na die Wes-Kaap uit te brei.”
