Bicycles and parts recovered in Mkondeni

2015-09-30 06:00

OVER R250 000 worth of bicycles and bicycle parts were recovered from a warehouse in Mkondeni last Friday.

Magma Security boss Shaheen Suleiman and Tradelog Investigation Services investigator Tyrone Gardiner made the discovery on Friday afternoon after they received a tip-off about a consignment of stolen bikes being stored in the area.

The bicycles were being transported by a Saydin Freight truck on the N3 near Howick last Tuesday, when the truck was pulled over by a vehicle flashing blue lights.

Once the truck had stopped, it was hijacked and is believed to have been driven to Mkondeni where the bikes were stored in the warehouse.

Suleiman and Gardiner said 570 items were recovered and all parts were believed to be accounted for.

They said the parts would be returned to the client in Durban and it is anticipated that an arrest will soon be made.

Saydin Freight owner Tham Naidoo said almost all the bicycles and parts had been returned and only a trailer and container were still missing.

He said his driver had told him that the blue-light flashing vehicle had pulled him over in the afternoon, pretending to be police.

“I am grateful to Tyrone and Shaheen for recovering most of the load and am happy that I have most of it back,” said Naidoo.

He said his truck would deliver the load to Johannesburg this week and he has told his driver that if he is asked to pull over, to only stop at the nearest police station.

Pietermaritzburg police spokesperson Constable Mthokozisi Ngobese confirmed the recovery of the stolen goods and said investigations into the incident were ongoing
