Harry Gwala Stadium rift ‘put to bed’?

2015-09-23 06:00

THE rift between Maritzburg United Football Club and Royal Eagles Football Club will likely end now that Royal Eagles has asked the Msunduzi Municipality if they can play their home fixtures at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Royal Eagles wants to be based in Pietermaritzburg permanently.

At the recent Executive committee meeting, Msunduzi mayor Chris Ndlela said that as the owner of the stadium, the municipality will decide on who will use the pitch. Ndlela urged both football clubs not to use the media as a platform to discuss this smatter, but rather follow appropriate channels by communicating with the municipality.

In June Royal Eagles’s Richard Makhoba asked to use the stadium for the 2015/2016 season for their home fixtures. In a letter to the municipality, Makhoba stated that Royal Eagles has seven players form Pietermaritzburg and they are willing to recruit more once they are based in the city.

Exco had recommended that Royal Eagles use the stadium as long as they do not infringe on any Premier Soccer League fixture for Maritzburg United
