JAGUAR has unveiled its 2016 XJ and says its all-aluminium luxury sedan is more desirable than ever.

Jaguar South Africa says the 2016 model will arrive here during the third quarter of 2015.

Nips and tucks include full LED headlights, semi-aniline leather and veneer inlays for the cabin and a new infotainment system - InControl Touch Pro with door-to-door satnav and 1300W Meridian digital audio.

There’s a new V6 diesel with more power and torque, lower fuel consumption and consequently lower CO2 emissions of more than 6%. The range will use the following engines.

• 220kW/700nM 3.0 V6 diesel auto

• 250kW 3.0 V6 petrol auto

• 375kW and 404kW 5.0 V8 petrol auto, variously in Luxury, Premium Luxury, Portfolio, R-Sport, XJR, XJ Autobiography models.

Jaguar’s vehicle line director Ian Hoban said: “More dynamic and distinctive than ever, we’ve engineered our flagship to deliver even greater levels of luxury and performance. With our new world-class infotainment system, interior materials and finishes which create an even more bespoke feel, and with the higher-power, lower-emissions diesel the XJ rewards drivers and passengers like no other luxury car.”

Exterior design, Jaguar says, includes a larger, more upright grille with sculpted chromed blades in the air intakes. The LED headlights “accentuate the ‘quad light’ design” with active front steer and static bend light functions and auto high-beam. The new LED tail lights include a new J-signature tail and position light graphic. The rear bumper now has a gloss-black valance and a slender chrome insert.

Oval exhaust finishers complete the look.

The Autobiography model, new to the XJ range for 2016 and available only with the long-wheelbase body, can be identified by its chromed front-bumper air intakes and 20” wheel rims, says Jaguar.

The cabin has a unique Autobiography Intaglio, quilted semi-aniline leather seats with contrasting stitching, a leather headliner, oak inlays and illuminated stainless-steel tread plates, air vents and boot finisher. Rear seating uses individual seats with seat-back adjustment and a massage function. Rear passengers will have their own entertainment system through two folding high-definition screens. - Wheels24
