THE Rainbow Theatre Group, a project of the Gay and Lesbian Network, has been selected to take part in Jomba, a contemporary dance festival run by the University of KwaZulu-Natal Centre for Creative Arts.

This is the first lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) drama group to be part of the festival.

The title of the piece to be performed will include dance, poetry, live music and photography, with the focus on the prevalence of hate crimes against the LGBTI community.

The group wants to raise awareness in the wider community regarding “corrective and cure rape”, which is a major problem in South Africa and affects the community.

The group will rework real-life hate crimes while concentrating on personal stories.

The performance will take place on 1 September at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre in Durban.

Tickets from Computicket or at the door.
