STIHL in Pietermaritzburg recently launched its newly laid garden project at the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home in Woodlands.

A competition, which ran for a year, was open to any garden enthusiast across the country to design a garden for the Pieter-maritzburg Children’s Home, which was identified as the recipient of its social responsibility project.

Speaking to Maritzburg Fever, Raylene Kleinhans from Stihl said that there were hundreds of entries for the garden design competition.

Ten finalists were chosen and in the end Ladybird Landscapes, based in Durban, won R5 000 worth of Stihl garden equipment . The design was then implemented by JPJ Landscapes at the home.

The garden has a host of new plants and newly laid grass which will beautify the front garden.

PCH has a dedicated gardener to maintain both its own vegetable garden, the donated garden and teach the PCH Garden Club the “tricks of the trade”.

The official opening was held recently and Stihl treated the children to a fun day with food and entertainment.

PCH management expressed their gratitude to Stihl for the donation.

“We would like to thank all those who were involved in this donation. It’s wonderful. The children from the garden club will be taking part in the maintenance of the garden,” said Christopher Mahadeo, public relations practitioner at PCH
