THE 2015 campaign of “A Young Lady with Heart” will be run in association with the Liberty Midlands Mall, with Maritzburg Fever as its official media sponsor.

The campaign seeks to reward Grade 11 schoolgirls who embrace the qualities of compassion, kindness, sincerity, loyalty and generosity.

The campaign is now in its third year, with the title being awarded to Talia John of St John’s DSG in 2013 and Arisna Maharaj of Raisethorpe Secondary in 2014.

The campaign, which runs over Women’s Month, August, encourages young ladies to find the balance between inner and outer beauty, and for this reason has drawn support from local and national business groups such as Biz Whiz and South African Council of Business Women (SACBW). These organisations, with sponsorship from Just Boutique, Lay-out Events and Signature Strengths, will bring a significant mentorship, networking and social media element to the table.

“This year there are over R30 000 worth of prizes for participating young ladies and this includes gift cards from the Liberty Midlands Mall, Solé Salons and Spa, Lady Di Exclusive Boutique, Silver Penny and Tracey P Photography again rewarding the girls with prizes for their 2016 matric dance,” said campaign administrator, Lara Edmonds of Just Boutique.

The Pietermaritzurg Community Chest has come on board as the official beneficiary, not only because it endorses the values at the heart of the campaign, but because it has a vision to introduce young people to the Junior Community Chest (JCC).

“We believe this will be a mutually beneficial partnership as this year the semi-finalists will be united in a community project for the Chest as well as a fund-raising gala dinner when the winner will be announced,” said Ursuhla Govender of Lay-out Events.

Govender, who has been on the selection panel for the campaign since its inception, said she has witnessed the goodwill shared between selected candidates:

“The girls may all come from a variety of schools and backgrounds, but they actually discover they have so much in common, not least of which, is their passion for the investment in the well-being of others,” she said.

Nominations open today, 29 July and Pietermaritzburg schools and schools within a 35km radius are invited to participate by nominating their Grade 11 candidates who embrace the above characteristics. - Supplied.
