MARITZBURG United CEO Younus Kadodia says since Clive Barker took over the reigns at the club, the former Bafana Bafana coach has lifted the mood in the dressing room.

In what was a surprising move when Barker was appointed at the Team of Choice, the 71-year-old has shown he still has the magic touch of old to imbue players with confidence when the chips are down.

And that was vindicated when in his first game in charge he won against Jomo Cosmos in the Telkom Knockout last 16, which the club hopes will go a long way in coming league matches.

“Clive has been a breath of fresh air and he came in and got the guys believing in themselves once again,” Kadodia tells KickOff.com

“We’ve seen that from the Cosmos game and it has been good, but it must change to get points in the league, which starts next weekend Wednesday [at home against Chippa United].”

Kadodia also reveals that the club looks likely to finalise a deal for Abia Nale before the end of the week.

The 29-year-old was recalled by Barker to have a look at him after he failed to convince previous coach Mandla Ncikazi.

The team has been relying on Kurt Lentjies and Siyabulela Shai to provide creativity from midfield following the release of Nhlanhla Shabalala, who was deemed surplus to requirements before the season started.

“We will still have a look at him [Nale] and the decision will be made before the end of this week,” says Kadodia.

“Clive indicated to us to have a look at him again and that is what he is doing at the moment. And upon us receiving feedback from the coach, the decision will be made.”

Following the Fifa break, Barker will be hoping to get his side’s league campaign back on track when the Chill Boys visit Harry Gwala Stadium next Wednesday.

Maritzburg have one point on the board after six league matches and that was a 0-0 home draw against Cosmos.
