THE female Correctional Services staff in the Area Commissioner’s office in Pietermaritzburg were honoured with a breakfast to close Women’s Month on Friday at Wanderers Club.

The event was planned and paid for by the male staff at the Area Commissioner’s office. The venue was sponsored by Delish Catering Services.

This year’s theme was “The year of OR Tambo: Women united in moving South Africa Forward”.

Guest speaker Thobekile Khuzwayo encouraged women not “to be comfortable” where they are. “There is always a better place for you. Learn something everywhere you are, develop yourself because that will take you far. Wherever you go you will always see there is always growth.

“When it is time to move, do it while everything is still good and in order. Anything might happen where you are, which is why it is important to grow. Work for what you want and you will get to that place.”
Khuzwayo said in her life there were plenty of jobs she had to leave, other employers didn’t want to renew her contract because she was in the right place at the wrong time.

“It will happen that you are in the right place at the wrong time, but in every circumstance in your life, learn something.

“Love and humble yourself, and most importantly, don’t show your scars. Make sure you rise and make sure your scars don’t shine,” she said.

Khuzwayo told breakfast guests to be empowered, goal orientated, united and supportive of each other.
