Call to apply for Motsepe bursaries

2016-10-26 06:00

UMGUNGUNDLOVU Motsepe Foundation development forum office is calling on eligible matric pupils, enrolled university students and those who possess Grade 12 certificates, but who have left school, to submit applications for bursaries.

Speaking on behalf of the foundation, Mzwandile Goge said the foundation will award 30 bursaries for the 2017 academic year.

“The foundation has been sponsoring pupils from poor backgrounds all over the country since 2013, these bursaries cover everything from tuition fees, accommodation and transport and again this year we are encouraging all pupils who would like to pursue or are in courses related to the bursary criterion to take advantage of the programme by submitting their applications as soon as possible.”

He said from 2013 the foundation in Pietermaritzburg currently has 18 students at different universities it is sponsoring.
Goge said the bursaries are mainly for Grade 12 pupils who will be going to university next year. The applicant must be a South African citizen, with a 70% aggregate, excluding life orientation and must have a certified copy of their June results.

The bursaries are for full-time study towards courses in science, engineering, entrepreneurship, technology, mathematics, business studies, medical studies and agriculture. Students intending to study in other faculties, like law and arts with excellent academic results, will also be considered.

Goge said the bursary fund also caters for enrolled university applicants and those with Grade 12 senior certificates who do not have finances to study further.

Enrolled university applicants will need to produce certified copies of their academic records, they must not have another diploma or degree and they are also not allowed to have another sponsor.

“Each applicant will be thoroughly evaluated and examined by our team before any decision is made. Applicants will be made aware of their submissions status via contact details entered on the application form,” said Goge.

The closing date for the applications is 28 October.

Application forms are available at the city hall and Publicity House.
